Morsches Park
In 1950 Ferdinand F. Morsches passed away and willed to the City approximately 117 acres of farm land lying east of the Blue River and known as the Foust Farm for park and recreational purposes (except for 20 acres on the northeast part which was given to the State for game and wildlife refuge which was later given back to the City in 1971). No part of the premises could be used for commercial or agricultural purposes. The City was to delegate all possible discretion and accept suggestions of the Junior Chamber of Commerce as to the facilities, improvements and general operation of said facility. The City did accept the property to be used for park purposes and to be known as “Morsches Park”. The land was turned over to the City in August, 1954. In 1968 the Columbia City Park & Recreation Board was established by the Common Council.
