The City of Columbia City (Indiana) has an opening for a full-time Groundsperson/Lineman/Apprentice Lineman for the Electric Department. Applicant provides service in the construction of overhead and underground lines. Transports and installs poles, anchors, ground rods, ground wires, meters, transformers, fuse cut outs, OCR’s, sectionalizers, voltage regulators, capacitors, circuit breakers, power banks and other line devices and equipment. Installs street lamps and other specialized lighting equipment. Locates URD cables as needed. Provides services in maintenance of overhead and underground lines. Replaces damaged or overloaded transformers, meters, broken insulators, cross arms, other defective material as needed. Responds to trouble calls and makes appropriate repairs. Performs routine maintenance on tools and equipment as needed. Performs meter reading and collections. Performs Right-of-Way clearings. Performs other duties as requested by Supervisor. Physical Requirements: Ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force while assembling and installing line equipment. Ability to travel to construction and maintenance sites as part of normal duties in order to build and maintain the distribution system. Ability to perform field duties in extreme temperatures, near extreme noise levels, fumes, around insects and near live electrical equipment. Applicant must be able work at heights. Applicants must already have or be able to attain a Class A CDL license. Previous training in an accredited apprenticeship is not required but may be considered.
